Our Ameraucana Chickens

Ameraucana is one of our most popular breed of chickens here on the farm. We are proud to own Paul Smith and The Gipsy Hen (former owner Rachel) birds as our foundational flock. We have been members of The Ameraucana Breeder Club since early 2019 and breed to meet the standard of perfection (SOP). We are committed to preserving and retaining the wonderful features of this amazing, unique breed. We breed for conformation, egg color, and temperament.

The Ameraucana chicken breed originates from Chile blue egg layers called Aracuanas. Ameraucanas were bred to retain the blue egg gene while eliminating the lethal alleles common to their parent breed.

The Ameraucana breed was admitted in the APA Standards of Perfection (SOP) in 1984. The last color variety to be admitted in the APA was the Lavender, also known as Self-Blue.

We presently carry two varieties which translates into four colors recognized by the APA; BBS Ameraucanas: For newbies, BBS stands for blue, black, and splash. Since then, we have continued their great work and have developed our own lines of BBS Americuana. We currently set up our pens by color, so when ordering hatching eggs, you will receive a mix from all three pens. Likewise, when you order chicks from us, you may get a clutch of all three colors. These are large fowl, laying 250 - 280 large eggs in various shades of blue, including blueish green. Very docile and gentle chickens.

The other popular variety is the Self-Blue variety, widely known as “Lavender Ameraucana” Ameraucana is a stunning breed of muffed, bearded, and tailed chickens that lay blue eggs. Ameraucana is one of the friendliest chicken breeds you can own. Their pea comb makes them the ideal poultry to raise in both hot and cold climates. Ameraucanas are extremely hardy and healthy chickens. You can expect 5-6 eggs per week out of your hens. We offer both chicks and fertile eggs.
